1. ENTERTAINMENT

Q. What options do you offer for event entertainment?

Gavin Riseley Entertainment offers a wide range of activities to keep your guests entertained at your next event.

Event entertainment services include DJ/Discos, karaoke, live music, comedians, hypnotists, variety acts, fairground rides and activities, magicians, quiz, bingo, casino and much more.

Q. How far in advance do I have to book?

As with all our event entertainment services, we recommend that you contact us during your event planning stage, you can advise us on a confirmed event date or we can offer available dates available for specific entertainment, acts and shows.

However, we have a full roster of entertainers, so last-minute arrangements can always be made.

Q. Are you a registered services provider or an Agent on commission?

Gavin Riseley Entertainment is a trading name of G R ENTS, the registered business name of Gavin Riseley; Self-Employed in The Republic of Cyprus. Other trading names include Definitive Disco, Love Lights Cyprus, Cyprus Fairground Hire, Cyprus Live Music and 360 Video Booth Cyprus.

Our registered number is EE47603A and our VAT Number is CY 01344995F. Gavin Riseley provides direct services and also acts as an Agent.

Q. Do you have liability insurance?

You need to be sure you, your venue and guests are protected in case of an accident. Gavin Riseley Entertainment has Public Liability Insurance cover for all directly provided DJ, Live Music and Entertainment services provided in The Republic of Cyprus and the British Sovereign Base Areas.

We can provide our Certificate of Public Liability Insurance on request.

2. LIVE MUSIC

Q. What kind of live music do you offer?

We have all kinds of live music, from people playing instruments to DJs spinning turntables. Virtually every genre of music is available, and the performers can be as animated or reserved as you like.

Whether you want your music to create an appropriate atmosphere or be the centre of attention, we can find the perfect live music option for your event.

Q. What kind of bands can I book?

We have all kinds of bands, from those who play a variety of popular styles to genre-specific and tribute bands.

You can dance the night away to nothing but ‘80s covers or something more contemporary. Rock, funk, disco, pop, and almost every other style imaginable can be yours.

We offer amateur bands for low budget events, full time bands for the all-round party and professional bands for that extra special occasion.

Q. I want something a little quieter. Can we have a more traditional musical act?

Of course. We don’t just offer amped-up rock bands. We also have solo sax and violinists, pianists, harpists, cool jazz combos and elegant string quartets to set the mood and allow your guests the leisure to talk without straining their voices.

In fact, we can create any ambience you like with our musical acts and performers.

3. DJ/DISCO

Q. Why should I hire a DJ for my event?

A DJ is the perfect entertainment choice for a number of events, especially if you want to dance. They can mix almost any kind of music you want, and they are much quicker at setting up and breaking down than a live band.

DJs are great for promotional events, social parties, Weddings, Birthdays and even holiday office parties. We offer a range of DJ/Disco packages to with sound, lighting, and special effects equipment to suit your needs, venue and budget.

Q. Which Sound & Lighting package should I book?

During summer, venues in Cyprus are often outside. With Cyprus being a small island with venues mostly non-enclosed / open air or close to the sea, standard Disco speakers that you would find DJs using inside UK venues (often with sound limiters), simply will be useless.

We offer a range of packages to suit your event, venue, and budget. Our Standard Disco Package includes Professional Active 750w RMS Full Range Speakers which are suitable for medium to large inside venues and small to medium enclosed outside venues.

Our Advanced package includes Professional Active 750w RMS Full Range Speakers and Professional Active 1250w RMS Subwoofers to prevent distortion and loss of the crisp highs and lows in an open air environment.

Q. Do your DJs take requests?

Of course. Your event should be a good time for all. Your guests can request whatever they alike, although we’ll let you have the final say every time.

Our DJs spin everything from Oldies to today’s biggest hits, and everything in between. Our DJs carry their personal WIFI and our fully licensed mixing software includes plugins for our premium Spotify, Tidal, Soundcloud & Beatport accounts so there is rarely a time when we will not be able to play a special request*.

*Our DJs reserve the right of refusal if/when a particular request does not fit the mood, crowd majority or where a song is highly explicit.

Q. Do we pick all the songs we want played?

We recommend that you suggest a small selection (up to 50) of songs you like or songs you think your guests will like. We will use your “customised music list” and information you will provide on your completed Event Planning Form, together with 20 years of experience to “read” and “work” the crowd, to keep your guests dancing and having a great time.

By giving your DJ the chance to do his job, it will ensure the success of your dream wedding or special event by allowing both you and all your guests have a great time.

The Event Planning Form also gives you the option to share Spotify playlists of your favourite music as well as the ability to add certain songs/genres to a DO NOT PLAY list.

Q. Would our DJ meet with us before the event?

Cyprus is not like the UK, we provide entertainment 365 days per year and from April to November, our DJs have weddings and events 7 days per week. During the busy summer season, prior meetings are not often possible as each day is ‘owned’ by a particular client.

During the busy summer season, our DJs will often return home at 3, 4 or 5am, sleep and then will be preparing to load equipment and get on the road for the next event. Our quieter period is January to March and can usually offer a time to meet by appointment.

Regardless, Gavin is available by iMessage, FaceTime, WhatsApp and Messenger and can always answer any questions you may have on the go. Our Wedding/Event Planning Forms go into great depth, and you have the option to provide as much information as you wish, so that your DJ is has everything needed to ensure your event is memorable for all the right reasons.

Q. Can one of our guests DJ or connect an iPod to play music through your equipment to save some money?

Whether our DJ is performing or not, he will still need to travel, setup, monitor and pack up the expensive sound and lighting equipment. We do offer Equipment Hire as a service but together with travel and setup charges, savings will be minimal.

Entertainment is one of the most important parts of any special event and we recommend letting our professional DJs do what they do best and letting all your guests enjoy your event.

However, it is your call, and you are welcome to request a quotation from our Equipment Hire pages.

ANNOYING FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS TO THE DJ:

Q. "Which songs do you have?"

YOUR DJ WILL NOT LIST OVER A MILLION SONGS.

Q. "Can you play something I can dance to!"

THIS IS USUALLY ASKED WHEN THE DANCEFLOOR IS FULL OF PEOPLE ENJOYING THE MUSIC.

Q. "I don't like this song... can you just change it?"

THIS IS USUALLY ASKED BY A GUEST THAT DOESN’T CARE ABOUT ANYONE ELSES MUSIC TASTE.

Q. "Can I just set my drink on your table for like five minutes?"

RARELY ASKED, JUST DONE. DRINKS WILL BE REMOVED SO JUST DON’T DO IT, DJ EQUIPMENT IS EXPENSIVE AND GENERALLY NOT LIQUID-PROOF!

Q. "Can you play a song off my phone?"

JUST ASK FOR THE SONG TO BE PLAYED AND WHERE POSSIBLE, IT WILL BE, BUT NOT FROM A PHONE.

Q. "That’s my favourite song, can you play it again?"

IT’S NOT ALL ABOUT YOU! YOUR DJ DOES NOT WANT TO SOUND LIKE A BROKEN RECORD AND WE’RE PRETTY SURE OTHER GUESTS DO NOT WANT TO HEAR THE SAME SONG TWICE IN THE OFTEN SHORT PERIOD THEY HAVE ON THE DANCEFLOOR!

Q. "I don’t know the name of the song or who sings it, but it goes something like…!"

“OH GOD… HERE WE GO!” GO ON THEN, LET’S HEAR IT IN YOUR BEST SLURRED SINGING VOICE! ALTHOUGH OFTEN A LAUGH, IT CAN BE EXTREMELY DIFFICULT TO HEAR / MAKE OUT WHAT YOU ARE TRYING TO SING IN A LOUD ENVIRONMENT, WHILST TRYING TO PREPARE THE NEXT TRACK.
